Because the
hotel rates in march are so high ( 50% above what they quoted for May,
which was already higher than I expected), we decided against March. June
was also ruled out because it is the end of the season and many of the
facilities on the island are closed. The weather makes it too dicey in
June. So we decided on May. The 3rd week which allows us to use the low
season rate while everything is still running.
SCHEDULE :-
Suggested arrivals on Saturday May 15th (earlier for golfers). Joan is
suggesting that we stay in the same hotel in Bangkok this time, for easier
logistics. However, finding a hotel to suit all tastes and budgets might
not be easy.
SUNDAY May 16th, Pre-Welcome dinner and cruise.
MONDAY 17th We leave for Koh Chang in the morning. We travel by
minibuses (10 per bus), for a 3-hour drive to Suan Puu resort for Buffet
Seafood lunch. From there it is 15 minute drive to the ferry, 20 minute
crossing and then 20 minute drive to The AMARI EMERALD COVE Hotel. (see
rates below), you can also visit their website.
Free aternoon. WELCOME DINNER & DANCE.
TUESDAY 18th, Island hopping cruise and picnic lunch. Tuesday PM will be free for you to arrange your Cell meetings and mini-groups etc. At night we will have Bingo and Crazy Whist. WEDNESDAY 19th. Island tour or trek in the morning. Alumni Meeting in the afternoon, with tea. The Charity Dinner and dance at night. THURSDAY 20th. We check out in the morning and you have your choice of 3 groups:-
Group #1. Golfers. We head back to Bangkok, with detour to play golf at
the Navy academy course in Rayong. Arrive BKK early evening.
Group #2. Shoppers. Bangkok with detour for lunch and shopping at the
gemstones market in Chantaburi.
Group #3. Final group of buses will head straight back to Bangkok. This
group can leave a little later if they want. Thursday evening is free.
FRIDAY 21st farewell dinner and dance. THE END !
This schedule has just 3 days in Koh Chang (Hua Hin and Chiangmai were 4
days) and gets Bangkok more involved. It should also be noted that the
Registration package will be higher (more on that below), but it will
include the transportation to Koh Chang and there is no extra plane fare
like there was for CM.
HOTEL
Bangkok TBA
Koh Chang. HOTEL AMARI. They have alloted us 100 rooms (out of the 155)
and 10 suites. Those who have pre-registered will have priority. (60
registrations for total 110 people). Once they have been used up, other
rooms will go at their Regular "SPECIAL" Rate which you will see in
brackets. As usual, we would like to stay in one 1 hotel, but if there
aren't enough rooms, we have scouted the Guest House nearby as a
contingent plan. Here are the REUNION RATES:-
40 SUPERIOR ROOMS @ US $ 110 ( $160)
60 DELUXE ROOMS @ US $ 130 ($ 185)
10 SUITES (Bedroom + Living Room) @ $ 280 (this might be a little
lower)
These rates are the same for SINGLE or DOUBLES & include Buffet
Breakfast. The rooms are big enough for a full extra bed. This rate (+1
more breakfast) is an additional $45. This is high, so we have to
try to re-negotiate. These rates are based on the current exchange rate of
the US $ which some predict will be better by next year.
REUNION FEE. The Budget is being worked out. Will let you know by
next week. This rate will include:-
Registration package, satchels, badges, programs and a Welcome kiss either
from Maureen (or from me at a slightly higher charge).
4 Dinners
2 Lunches
2 Picnics
1 Afternoon Tea
Island Tour or trek
Transportation to & from Koh Chang as well as to all events.
Please read this carefully. Joan will prepare the new Registration Form
soon. Those who have signed
previously can double check to see if you are on it.
Love Dan
