About the artist:
Ms. Ganga
Devi Somany
Ms. Ganga Devi Somany
was born on 23rd September 1924 in Pilani to Mr. B.M. Birla &
Mrs. Rukmani Devi.
She is not only a
talented artist but also indulged in charity work, writing and other
works but one thing that she enjoys the most is painting.
Her paintings are a
part of the repertoire of London's British Museum and the Victoria &
Albert Museum.
This is the first time
that she would be participating in an Exhibition-cum-Sale of some of her
works of art for charity.
She has been painting
for thirty years now, has several exhibitions to her credit.
It is surprising that
the only formal education she received on this art was when she was in
school. It was more after her husband’s death, she became a serious
painter.
That was the turning
point in her life when she realized that she had to add meaning and
serenity to her life. Painting gave her the comfort she required at that
stage of life and this can even be seen through her paintings.
She belongs to the class of artists who paint
for pleasure.
Her paintings are an extension of her
personality.
Her canvasses emanate positive energy and
optimism.
The central theme of most of her art works is
feminity and womanhood.
It is as if she finds beauty in all aspects of
life and portrays it so beautifully.
Mr. B.K. Birla:
Mr. Basant Kumar Birla, Chairman, B.K. Birla
Group of companies, may have crossed 85, but has still not slowed down.
He is going ahead with expansions planned in
cement, textiles and paper.
BK, one of the eldest members of the Birla clan,
still controls one of the largest business empires in the country.
Mr. B.K. Birla is very well known all over the world, for not only as
the foremost industrialist of India but also, as the founder of Birla
Academy of Art and Culture, Kolkata.
Photography has been a passion for him, from his
early days.
On behalf of the PBC Art Gallery Team, we look
forward to your presence on the occasion and of receiving your
acceptance.
Thank you.
With warm regards,
Sincerely,
