Report of the Reunion of the North Point Alumni Association of North India, in New Delhi, submitted by Surekha, secretary to Kamal Meattle

The Delhi Alumni met on Sunday, December 2, 2007, at the lush green lawns of Kamal Meattle’s residence at 26 Prithviraj Road, New Delhi.

Kamal welcomed Fr Van, Fr. Kinley Fr. Victor and thanked them for coming from Darjeeling for this event.

He also thanked the Old Boys & Guests for joining the Reunion and said that it was important for net-working and forming a proper Association, which was a prerequisite to move ahead.

He informed the gathering about the development of a society named “North Point Alumni Association of North India” which should be operational by March 2008.

Fr. Gerard Van Wallegham during his speech talked about the importance of values of North Pointers and gave Kamal as an example.

He spoke of the necessity for being ‘men for others’.

He also emphasized the importance of such a gathering and the need for North Pointers to be proactive.

Fr. Kinley Tshering, the Rector, St. Joseph’s School, briefed the gathering about the new infrastructure development at North Point.

He also assured the house of the bright future of the school and said there was now a waiting list for admission into the school.

The school premise, staff and local students were helping to educate children from the poor communities in the winter months and hence the school was functional around the year now.

Fr. J. Victor, the Principal of St.Joseph’s College was delighted to be at the Reunion and spoke of the progress made by the college and officially handed over to Kamal, the Life Time Achievement Award that was given to him in March 2007 at Darjeeling.

The gathering consisted of batches right from the 1950’s to 2005.

When Kamal handed over the mike to each one to say a few words and introduce themselves, everyone became nostalgic and cited incidents to show how North Point still runs in their veins.

It was a gathering of about 35 people and all were in high spirits.

Several Videos of the March Reunion in Darjeeling and one in Kolkata were shown.

An announcement was made and details given for the next Mega Reunion in Thailand in May 2009.

Those who could not make it to this Reunion had sent their best wishes including Paljor Dorji, Amal Ganguli, Sandup Wangdi, Edmund Jonah, David Lodrick, Joan, Satish Singh Kalae, Shekhar Singh, Ivan St. Clair Sequeira and others.

The reunion saw friends meeting after decades, the old meeting the new.

There were healthy concerns regarding school development and an important concern was in regard to making the alumni in Delhi stronger and more proactive.

Loreto Ladies added glam to the event.

The suggestion that the next Reunion be planned in Bhutan was unanimously supported by all.

Everyone was again taken down the memory lane where everything was fun.

The entire place was brimming with emotion.

Cameras were flashing, trying to capture everything.

The crowning moment of the event was when all North Pointers from different eras stood together and sang the school Chorus…..Hurrah for our home in the mountains!

Kamal also thanked Surekha for her tireless efforts in organizing this event and several other events for the Alumni.
