Chuck Wong's report
Hi North Pointers and spouses,
What a reunion we had this July!
Thanks to TN and Vilma for hosting the dinners and everyone for
attending. We had Albion Gee from London. Albion may call himself a G
but he is really an A plus because he introduced the whole world to the
Superman movies decades ago. Albion, we thank you and your American
Express card for treating us to so many meals during the reunion.
Though Arnold Mckenzie came to us
from the Phillipines, he's no manila folder. He works out for 2 hours a
day and 4 hours on the weekends and still looks like a stud. He might
live on the island of Luzon but he is always a winner. Albion, we
should make a new movie called, "Superman turns 63" starring Arnold Mckenzie. Okay, I get 20% royalties for the idea. Okay, in the NP
spirit I'll make it 10%.
Jimmy Pyke is a lawyer that came to
us from London. Looking at his 100 lb. toothpick profile I'm convinced
that Britain is at the bottom of the rung in the culinary ladder. Don't
worry Jimmy, upon my demise on this earth I leave you all my excess fat
cells and my cook book.
To Roman Mukerjee I leave nothing. As many of you know, RM was famous for being the wicket keeper and piano
man in his time. What you don't know is that Roman was also
responsible for the split between NP and Bethany. You see, decades ago kindergarden
was coed, and 5 year old Muk went into the bathroom with 5 year old
Anne. He told her, "I'll show you my plumbing if you show me yours."
When she did, Roman, like a typical wicket keeper yelled, "Howzat!!!!" That brought in Mother Superior, and, NP and Bethany have since
been divorced.
We also had a real movie star, Nari
Avari attend. I remember Nari as the opening batsman who could outrace
any pace, and hit any googly into the Hoogly. Avari acted in every NP
play I remember. He also brought us lots of movies including "Planet
of the Apes". Hey, is that about Paulites?
We were blessed with the presence of
Noreen Dunne. She taught in the college and brought class to everything
she did, and, in the end we all learned how matters of life were
supposed to be dunne. She is a very, very, very good instructor but she
doesn't like flattery. So I'm just going to say she is a very good
instructor.
Sameek Ray was also present, but in
his day he was anything but meek. He was a champion boxer and opening
batsman. Thanks for doing all the driving and Nepali dances, Miki.
Dr. Tamding Tempo also honored our
reunion with his presence. Talk about fit..., this guy still plays
soccer. I heard women faint in front of him. Then I found out he is an
anesthesiologist. Tamding is a semi-pro ballroom dancer and overall
great guy.
Sanjoy Banerjee was the top of the
academic pyramid in the entire Commonwealth in his days. Today he is a
leading researcher on global warming. Sanjoy, did you notice how much
NP reunions contribute with all the warm feelings and nostalgia?
Then there was Philly Patel, the
only Patel without a motel. Philly's dad used to work in the Chowrasta
store, and that place consumed most of my monthly pocket money Fr.
Prefect handed out to me.
Well, there are too many people to
thank in the short episode. I feel like the Academy Awards where the
music is starting to play and I have to get off the stage. Thanks Ashok
for bringing the food and drinks, Mohan and Sheila for the spectacular
picture of Kunchenjunga; Swapan Roy, Lucy, Alex Tshering, Dorji Lama,
Usha, Ronnie Hsu and Cindy for the great stories. Okay, they've pushed
me off the stage. See you next reunion.
Sursum Corda,
