EVENTS Some mini reunions around the world
Some mini reunions around the world Memorial Service held in Darjeeling on September 6th, 2002 for Jupiter Yambem, victim of the World Trade Center attacks. Anil Rai (anilcrai@hotmail.com) writes on September 15, 2002.
You must have read about the prayer service held at Tiger Hill in the
various newspapers albiet with a little bit of inaccuracies creeping in.
However it was a glorious sun drenched day. The Kanchenjunga formed the
backdrop of the prayer service. There were about 25 of us. Among the jesuits
were Fr.Van, Fr.Lobo,Fr.Dhabi (Prefect), and Fr.Tigga (ex-minister of the
school) and Fr.Kinley Tshering, Mrs.Venkat, Mrs.Kakoli Choudhury,and Mrs.Geeta
Bhutia were also present. There were 7 school boys who sang the hymns, and the
rest were members of the Alumni association, KK Gurung, Deepak Kusarye, Sonam
Yonzon, Bidur Bomzon et al. I was the MC. The service began with an
introductory talk by Fr.Van, followed by a Hymn. Then we had a reading from
the Holy Bible by Andre Lefevre, from the Bhagwat Gita by myself and from the
Dhammapada by Mrs.Geeta Bhutia. This was followed by a brief reminiscence to
celebrate Jupiter's life, by two of his close friends Rajat Sengupta and
Fr.Kinley Tshering sj. We then had a hymn and thereafter Nancy shared some of
her thoughts with us before scattering Jupiter's ashes over the wild bamboo
groves surrounding the venue. This was followed by a closing
prayer by Fr.Lobo and the singing of the NP chorus in memory of Jupiter. The
whole service was serene and all our hearts went out to Nancy and Saanti,
Yambem Jupiter's 6 yr old son....who looks exactly like his father.
